The new Energiron DRI line is the biggest of its kind in China and the largest hydrogen-capable line in the world.
DRI production has started at China’s leading steel producer Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel (Baowu Group) in the province of Guangdong. The new system is equipped with ZR – Zero Reformer technology by Energiron and will produce 1 million tonnes of quality DRI using natural gas, coke oven gas and hydrogen, says Danieli. The DRI line at Baosteel Zhanjiang is the second Energiron DRI system in China to commence operations after that of HBIS in May 2023. DRI systems by Energiron are designed to be hybrid-capable. The processed DRI pellets allow for a metallisation rate of up to 96% and a variable content of carbon, which ranges from 0.5% when mostly using hydrogen to 4.5% when using 100% natural gas. All DRI systems by Energiron are capable of reducing carbon emissions, as they use hydrogen and the CO2 generated during reduction can be recaptured. Energiron is the name of the DRI technology jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli. Source: Danieli
