NAMUR Recommendation NE 167 ‘Common Technical Terms of Delivery for Valves, Control Valves and PCT Field Devices’ has been revised in terms of content and editing. It contains significant updates and additions that further advance the standardisation and quality assurance of valves, control valves and PCT field devices in the process industry.
A central element of the revision is the introduction of ‘electronic tagging’ in accordance with IEC 61406, which requires that valves and actuators are provided by the manufacturer with a machine-readable ID in the form of a digital nameplate. This innovation supports digitalisation in the process industry and facilitates the efficient identification and management of devices in the field.
Another important point is the additional reference to NE 53, which provides for mandatory notification of changes to the device hardware. This improves the traceability of modifications and increases transparency. In addition, technical requirements, such as the specifications for external leak tightness, have been revised and specified in order to further increase safety and reliability.
The revisions are aimed at sustainably improving standardisation, digitalisation, quality and safety in the process industry. The new version of NE 167 represents a modern and future-orientated industry standard for valves, control valves and DCS field devices.
